Dakota had just finished chemistry and couldn't believe what she learned. Running through the hall super excited about her new found powers, she did not care if she got lost. The cat was too elastic to care. Thanks to her tail and cat balance she was able to run between and around her school mates with ease. A few complained for her to slow down but she ignored them. Her high was too amazing to come down from till she spotted Whitney at the end of the hall walking toward her but Dakota knew she was just walking to her next class. But seeing how she's treated Kazu, the cat wanted nothing to do with the wolf eared girl.

Making a detour down a different hallway, Dakota begin to jump around again. Suddenly someone stepped out of a classroom and into Dakota. Because of her speed she was knocked to the floor. She laughed and apologized. Looking up, she was grateful to see her best friend of the school, Andrew. He chuckled and offered a hand to help her up. Taking it, the cat stood and fixed her uniform. As normal, Andrew asked if the cat was lost. Shaking her head and smiling proudly, the girl explained that she had finally learned how to do her magic trick. Proud of his friend, the dragon smiled and congratulated her.

The cat put on a little kid pout and purred, begging her friend to come see it. She felt like she'd burst into pieces if he said no. The girl really wanted to show someone. She was overly joyed about her new found talent and could not hold it much longer. So when the dragon nodded and said of course, she hugged him tightly, making him stagger a few steps to keep his balance. She held for a moment then yanked him to her dorm. Being quick on his own feet, Andrew was able to keep up with the cat.

Once inside, Andrew made himself comfortable on the edge of her bed watching the cat as she pulled out a Magician's hat. Walking over so her friend could watch, Dakota slipped her whole arm into the hat and moved it around is if looking for something. The dragon could not help but be curious about what she was going to pull out. The cat's tail swung behind her in excitement when she yanked out her hand. The girl laughed as she held up a stuffed rabbit. Andrew laughed and clapped for the girl. Bowing, the cat then asked he wanted to see a real magic trick. Having time before his next class, her friend agreed to see what else she has planned.

After setting the bunny in her hat and setting it on the bed to be put away later, the cat opened the drawer in the bedside table and pulled out a crystal. Andrew knew a lot about gems and knew Dakota was clueless with them yet she was using using one to do magic. Confused and a little worried for his friend, Andrew asked if she knew what she was doing. Dakota nodded and said not to worry. She shut off the light which made Andrew nervous as his friend sat next to him on the bed but the cat was too excited to notice.

“The spell is channeled through the crystal and into the room. It allows others to see the memories of the person holding the crystal. I've been working on this for a while now and I finally got it to work.” Dakota explained with a smile.

Not wanting to ruin her focus, Andrew sat quiet and watched. Dakota held the crystal in her lap and after a few deep breathes the crystal produced a soft purple light that pulsed once then suddenly filled the room. Looking up, both watched as the room showed Dakota as a little kid. The little girl's hands were covering her ears and tears streamed down her face as she ran for home. Laughing could be heard but there was no one else in the scene. Then it faded to a lady forcing a hat onto Dakota. The little girl fought and complained about how it hurt her ears but the lady would hit Dakota every time the girl yanked off the hat.

Dakota flattened her ears as she watched her own horrible memories. The scene then changed to a few years later. The cat was now a teen playing in her back yard. She smiled and waved as a few guys walked by. They stopped and went to talk to her when the lady from before, only a few years older as well, walked out and dragged the cat inside. She hissed and growled, trying to get free. The girl was complaining about never being able to talk to anyone. The scene faded and returned. The girl was now in what looked to be here bedroom, curled up on a bed, crying. The scene changed again to show Dakota as she is today, standing in a hallway. She was staring at a normal white door but fear filled her. Taking a deep breath, the cat walked up the door and started to push it open. The voices of the woman and a man could be heard. Both were complaining about Dakota. The cat flattened her ears and her tail sunk between her legs as she listened to them talk about the lies they had told her and then she broke when the woman said Dakota could never leave the house because she was a monster. The cat wiped her tears and ran off. The scene faded and everything returned to normal.

Horrified by how cruel Dakota's past had been for the cheerful girl, Andrew turned to comfort his friend but she was gone. Worried about what she might be up to, the dragon jumped up and flipped on the light but the cat was missing. Not sure what to do, Andrew called out the cat's name, hoping she would answer. He did not want his friend to hurt herself or get in trouble.

“I forgot they called me that...” whimpered the girl.

Andrew dropped his gaze to the bottom of the bed where the voice came from. He felt terrible for his friend. Kneeling by the bed, he looked underneath to see the cat curled up. She held her tail and he could hear her trying not to cry but nothing he said would get her to come out. The dragon tried to go after her but his wings stopped him so he was forced to sit with his back against the bed till she was ready to come out. The dragon even skipped his next class, not wanting to leave Dakota alone after what they both saw.
More of Dakota's past. Since I didn't say it the man and woman in the story are Dakota's parents. I rushed the story about her past and left out so much detail because I wrote late in the night so this is to try and fill in the actual emotion lost in the first one. Hope this fills in how much she hated her home life and why she left in the first place.
